A five-mile man-made finger poking into Galveston Bay, and the honey hole of Gulf beachcombing. A century of ship-channel traffic and early-1900s dumping washes glass onto the rocks of the north side: whites, ambers and greens with aqua, lavender and now and then a red. Drive the dike road and work the riprap. Mind your footing on those rocks.
