This beach hurts people. Davenport's glass is the overflow of an art-glass studio: a flood of San Vicente Creek carried Lundberg Studios' waste down to the sea. What washes in is unlike anywhere else, all multicoloured nuggets, marbles and stoppers. But the hunting is done in full wetsuits, in a surf that runs to six metres, and severe bruising and broken limbs are commonplace. It is also very storm-dependent: people drive down and find nothing. The land is a California State Park, and State Parks ask visitors not to remove sea glass. Go to see it. If you go in the water, you are on your own.
