Easington Colliery Beach

The quieter stretch of the Seaham coast, below the old Easington pit head. Regulars find thick, well tumbled pieces in white, seafoam and green every time they look down, and the walk keeps the crowds away: half a kilometre along the clifftop path from the free colliery car park, then 82 steps down the cliff. At low tide you can walk north to Shippersea Bay, known among collectors for its striped multicoloured slag glass. Watch the tide on the way back, the far ends get cut off around high water, and stay clear of the cliff base.
