Every sea glass beach mapped in Greece

Sea glass found at Blue Carpet, Greece

Blue Carpet

Lots by the Blue Carpet Hotel! But there is plenty along the beach towards the town, the glass tends to gather among a line of rocks along where the tide drops it off.

Sea glass found at Grotta Beach, Naxos, Greece

Grotta Beach, Naxos

The pebble shore on the north side of Naxos Town, just behind the Temple of Apollo. People have lived on this bay for three thousand years, and the meltemi keeps turning their glass up into the pebbles. A collector who stopped here recently found the beach loaded, and the pros who sail the Cyclades rate it too. The submerged ruins offshore are a marked archaeological zone, so enjoy the frosted glass and leave every piece of pottery where it lies.

Sea glass found at Sounio Beach, Cape Sounion, Greece

Sounio Beach, Cape Sounion

The little bay right under the Temple of Poseidon, an hour down the coast from Athens. Behind the fish tavern at the north end the beach turns rocky, and that is where the glass sits, tumbled in with the pebbles. Ships have rounded this cape for as long as there have been ships, and the tavern alone has fed people on this shore since 1887. The whole cape is protected ground, so if anything looks ancient, leave it where it lies.

Sea glass found at Elli Beach, Rhodes Town, Greece

Elli Beach, Rhodes Town

The town beach that wraps the northern tip of Rhodes, a short walk from Mandraki harbour and the medieval walls. Centuries of port life, plus an American radio ship that sat offshore through the Cold War, left the shore seeded with small frosted pieces in white, green and amber. Work the pebbly stretch nearest the port, and come in winter if you can, when the waves turn everything over.

Sea glass found at Anaxos Beach, Lesbos, Greece

Anaxos Beach, Lesbos

A long sand and pebble beach on the north coast of Lesbos, just west of Molyvos. A collector staying here called it a rich hunting ground and had finds in hand within minutes, with most of the stretch still unexplored. Easy access, tavernas behind the sand, and the north-facing shore gets a fresh delivery whenever the wind has been up.

A good amount
Sea glass found at Aliki, Paros, Greece

Aliki, Paros

A little fishing village on the south west corner of Paros whose beaches quietly collect sea glass and driftwood. Local beachcombers rate the coves west of the village towards Makria Miti, and visitors keep leaving Paros with a good handful. Easy walking from the harbour, and the small coves repay a slow look along the tide line.
